Justification of resection of sentinel lymph nodes on breast cancer surgery

Summary. Resection of sentinel lymph node (SLN) has been worked out to minimize complications of radical surgery for breast cancer (BC). It has been proven that SLN resection in patients with early stages of BC, in particular N0, allows to achieve results similar to those after a complete regional lymph node dissection. The article presents data obtained in randomized trials that allow using of preserving surgery on lymph efflux pathways in complex treatment for BC, experience of authors according to the data of National Cancer Institute.
