Inflammatory breast cancer: special characteristics of surgery

Summary. Surgical tactics should be based on the principles of cancer radicalism and aesthetic advisability. There is a radical mastectomy — method of choice in case of inflammatory breast cancer. The wounds edges should be examined for cleanliness, clear resection margins must be achieved. Breast-conservation surgery and skin(nipple)sparing mastectomy are not used. Reconstructive surgery should be delayed and held after adjuvant treatment and complete healing of surgical wounds.
