Inflammatory breast cancer and mastitis: features of the differential diagnosis

Summary. Quite often, in the absence of oncological vigilance, young patients with inflammatory breast cancer are diagnosed by mistake and treated with «mastitis». Patients of young age suffer of rapidly progressing disease when treatment is delayed. Special anti-tumor treatment started at a wrong time can not significantly affect the results of relapse-free survival. So, 3 years after the treatment, a loco-regional recurrence of the disease was noted in 7 (29.2%) and distant metastasis in 5 (20.8%) patients. Clear understanding of the symptoms of the disease, tactics of diagnostic measures is the key to the treatment started well-timed, increasing survival, improving the quality of patients life.
